Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Real Estate Attorney with a strong background in real estate development to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will provide strategic legal advice and support across a range of complex real estate transactions, with a particular focus on acquisition, development, entitlement, land use, construction, and disposition of commercial and residential real estate projects.
This role requires deep knowledge of real estate law and a solid understanding of the development lifecycle, from site selection and due diligence to project completion and disposition. You will work closely with internal teams (development, finance, and operations) and external stakeholders (municipalities, consultants, investors, and outside counsel) to facilitate successful project delivery while managing legal risk. Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft, review, and negotiate real estate contracts, including purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, leases, easements, and joint venture agreements.
  • Advise on land use, zoning, and entitlement matters, including interfacing with local governments and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage legal aspects of due diligence for potential acquisitions, including title review, environmental assessments, and survey analysis.
  • Provide guidance on construction law, including contracts with general contractors, architects, engineers, and subcontractors (e.g., AIA documents).
  • Support financing and investment transactions, including loan documentation, equity structuring, and lender/investor negotiations.
  • Monitor regulatory and legal trends impacting real estate development projects.
  • Assist with risk mitigation strategies, dispute resolution, and litigation oversight when necessary.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with development, design, construction, and asset management teams throughout the development process.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of a state bar (preferably [State], or ability to obtain admission).
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience in real estate law, with at least 3+ years directly involved in real estate development projects .
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial or mixed-use development, preferably with exposure to large-scale or urban projects.
  • Strong understanding of land use regulations, entitlement processes, and permitting.
  • Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Familiarity with construction financing and public-private partnerships is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Attributes:
  • In-house legal experience with a real estate developer, REIT, or investment firm.
  • Background in urban planning, architecture, or civil engineering is a plus.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
