The Importance of this Role

As a Data Analyst at Matic, you will be responsible for managing, analyzing, and interpreting data from various sources to deliver meaningful insights across our organization. We use data to set the direction of our business; this means that you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand specific business needs and provide data-backed recommendations and reporting that influence key decisions.

The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to translate data into valuable insights for business leaders. With these skills, you will be able to help drive change within our organization that will help grow our business and shape the way insurance is sold.

At Matic, we are building a data-driven culture by empowering self-service, creating impactful reporting and visualizations, and serving as data evangelists across the organization. We use tools that include SQL, Snowflake, Metabase, Tableau, GitHub, and DBT to transform data into insights, and those insights help to guide policy and business decisions at Matic.

This role is required to be based out of our Columbus, Ohio office. Remote candidates will not be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define data requirements and deliver actionable insights aligned with business goals;
  • Work with cross functional stakeholders to translate business needs into product and data requirements which are needed to track key metrics;
  • Utilize SQL to extract, manipulate, and analyze large datasets from various sources;
  • Leverage Snowflake to manage and query data in a cloud data warehouse environment;
  • Understand how data pipelines work utilizing tools like DBT and Meltano to ensure derived data fields are correctly computed and uploaded to end-user data;
  • Create compelling visualizations and dashboards using Tableau and Metabase to present complex data insights in an easily digestible format;
  • Work closely with business leaders to understand KPIs, identify trends, and offer recommendations to improve business performance;
  • Perform data analysis and deliver insights on potential changes to our business processes;
  • Continuously monitor data quality and ensure the accuracy and consistency of datasets;
  • Use GitHub for version control, collaborating with other data team members on code and data models;
  • Support the development of data models and assist in improving data processes across the organization;
  • Communicate with key stakeholders to identify areas for improvement, status of ongoing tasks, and to understand the business of insurance.

Key Highlights

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Gather, clean, and organize data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and reliability. Perform advanced data analysis and develop data models to extract meaningful insights.
  • Data Visualization: Create informative and visually appealing dashboards and reports to present data findings effectively to stakeholders. We currently utilize Tableau and Metabase to communicate insights.
  • Predictive Modeling: Develop predictive models and statistical analyses to forecast trends, identify patterns, and make recommendations for decision-makers.
  • Data Interpretation: Translate complex data into actionable insights and articulate recommendations for business strategy, process improvements, and other initiatives.
  • Hypothesis Testing: Design reporting to support business led A/B tests and experiments to evaluate the impact of changes and initiatives. Help identify appropriate KPIs that measure success of testing.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency, and recommend data quality improvements when necessary.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product development, and finance, to support their data-related needs and collaborate on data-driven projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Economics or a related field
  • Proven experience as a Data Analyst, with a strong ability to work with business stakeholders to derive actionable insights
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in SQL for data querying and analysis
  • Experience working with Snowflake for cloud-based data storage and querying
  • Upper-intermediate and above level of English, both written and verbal
  • Strong experience creating dashboards and visualizations using Tableau and Metabase
  • Experience with data modeling and business intelligence big data architectures
  • A basic understanding of statistical analysis and familiarity with current statistical packages
  • Knowledge of version control systems, particularly GitHub, for collaboration on data projects
  • Ability to present complex data insights in a clear and concise manner for non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience using data to identify business needs, recommend process improvements, or support strategic decisions
  • The ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional, multi-location environment
  • Ability to work independently but with support of a team behind you to help you succeed
